This eight week online class introduces students to the art of spiritual journal writing.  Our focuses are insight, wisdom, and power; and learning to ask the right questions. Participants will also learn to:

• know themselves at a vastly deeper level
• understand (and untangle) their own motivations
• become increasingly more free and creative
• hone their stylistic skills as writers
• distinguish between persona and one’s true self
• parse what matters in life from trivial distractions
• appreciate the mythic dimension (hero’s journey) in the details of everyday existence
• transform experience – especially great challenges – into objects of wisdom

Mark Matousek is the bestselling author of two memoirs, Sex Death Enlightenment: A True Story and The Boy He Left Behind: A Man’s Search for His Lost Father, as well as When You’re Falling, Dive: Lessons in the Art of Living.  A popular writing instructor, he specializes in helping students discover their inherent writer’s voice and viewing writing as a form of spiritual practice.

The class schedule allows for your total flexibility.  Mark will send a writing assignment on Tuesday each week.  Post your response anytime by the following Monday and he will respond to all posts, and, of course, all class members are encouraged to respond to other posts as well.  We’ll be sharing and discussing the journaling process—not journal entries. (Although from time to time you may want to share some of your journal entry passages.)

The class begins on Tuesday, January 11 and ends on Monday, March 7
